Sri Ramakrishna was born in 1836 in Kamarpukur, a small village in West Bengal, in a Brahmin family. His parents were of modest but very pious and devout. When Sri Ramakrishna was five, was sent to the village primary school. Here he learned to read and write, but showed a great aversion to arithmetic.
